Everton “very keen” on move to sign “phenomenal” £43k-p/w star
Everton youngster Tom Cannon has opened up on his recent loan move to the Championship with Preston North End, stating that he did have interest from elsewhere before completing his move.
Cannon broke into the Everton first-team after impressing for the club’s under-23s side, having scored 7 goals in the PL2 alone this season.
He made his debut for Frank Lampard’s side in early November, coming on as a late substitute in Everton’s 4-1 loss to Bournemouth in the EFL Cup.
The 20-year-old even scored his first professional goal for the blues in a 5-1 win over Western Sydney Wanderers during the World Cup break.
Although there were some shouts from Everton fans for Lampard to start the youngster, with the return of Dominic Calvert-Lewin from injury, Cannon would likely struggle for consistent game time.
Everton confirmed the departure of Cannon until the end of the season earlier this week in the hope that he continues his development.
In an interview with BBC Sport after completing his move, Cannon stated:

“There was obviously interest from elsewhere, but since I heard it was Preston, I feel like I can come in and show what I can do”
“Ive seen what Cameron (Archer) had done last season. Hopefully, I can score more and try to replicate it.”
“Hopefully I can perform well and get back into the Everton squad in the summer”
The last time Everton loaned a player to Preston North End, it did not go exactly to plan, with Anthony Gordon only managing to make 11 appearances for the lilywhites. However, he did manage to return to Everton and break into the first team.
